SP DECA Wins the COW Cup!

From July 22nd-July 24th Sun Prairie DECA's Officer Team had the opportunity to participate in the Chapter Opportunity Workshop, also known as COW. Over the course of this student lead and organized event, 8 DECA students were able to meet in person at The Nitty Gritty in Sun Prairie while wearing masks and practicing social distancing for this educative and fun networking-based conference. A variety of activities and events took place throughout the week and included a scavenger hunt, an online marketing test, individual roleplays, best practices workshops, a TikTok challenge, and a virtual meeting with the WI DECA state officer team. At the end of this three day workshop, these activities were accounted for and assigned points. Sun Prairie DECA is extremely excited to say that with our hard work and creative ideas we won the 2020 COW Cup, an award that travels annually! Plus-- our VP of Finance, John Trilling won a roleplay medal and Carson Lipinski, our Chapter President, won COW King. Congrats!

In addition to winning the COW cup, Sun Prairie DECA also won in terms of planning and creative problem solving. During COW time was allotted for "Chapter Strategic Planning" which the officer team utilized to brainstorm and plan for the upcoming year. With virtual schooling for quarter 1 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and limitations on in-person activities, Sun Prairie DECA worked hard on creative solutions to still stay involved in both the SPHS and Sun Prairie communities. Plans were and are being made to account for a variety of scenarios and make the 2020-2021 school year a continuation of DECA's involvement.

Currently, DECA is signed up to volunteer at two drive in movies held by the City of Sun Prairie in mid to late August. Members will be helping to direct parking and check in movie-goers. Information on volunteer sign up will be released shortly. Also, tentative plans have been made for volunteering at a car-wash, creating an adopt-a-senior program, going leaf raking around Sun Prairie, hosting a virtual Soup With Santa, and more! Members should be sure to keep an eye out for more in formation about these opportunities coming out in the near future.
